Our Story
Care home vision & hearing reinvented
A Small Beginning. A Lasting Purpose.
Over 25 years ago, our founder, Sahal, was managing a practice for one of the country’s largest optical groups when he recognised a gap: care home residents who could not reach the high street were struggling to access eye care.
He began visiting care homes on his days off. Sitting beside residents and seeing how better vision could restore confidence, independence and connection inspired him to take a leap of faith.
From a small studio flat in South Balham, London, Visionary Eyecare was born.
Rooted in Family. Built on Trust.
Family has always shaped our approach. Sahal later moved the business to Leicester to be closer to his grandad, bringing with him the belief that every resident deserves the care and attention we would want for our own loved ones.
Through dedication and lasting relationships, we grew to support care homes across the country, including a partnership with one of the UK’s largest care home groups.
During COVID-19, that commitment extended further. Sahal helped bring together expertise and leaders from social care, healthcare regulation and academia, supporting efforts to protect vulnerable residents and bring rapid diagnostic technology to the UK.
Growing Around Residents’ Needs.
What began with eye care has grown into a broader commitment to residents’ wellbeing.
Today, we provide eye care, hearing care and ear wax removal directly in care homes. Alongside these services, our dementia-friendly signage supports residents’ independence, while our bespoke Care Home Portal helps staff coordinate care.
We have also created a bespoke online training platform, investing in the knowledge and confidence of the people who support residents every day.
Bringing Communities Together.
Through coffee mornings and awareness events in care homes across the country, we help residents, families and local communities better understand sight and hearing loss.
These gatherings bring people together to ask questions, share experiences and learn how small changes can make a meaningful difference—helping more people feel seen, heard and included.
Our Promise
As we grow, our purpose remains personal: to bring compassionate care to residents, practical support to care teams and reassurance to families.
It is the same purpose that inspired our very first visit—and it continues to guide every step we take.
